Peer Support

Our Peer Support program has commenced, where the whole school participates in Peer Support sessions for 30 minutes each week from Weeks 3 – 8.

Our Year 6 school leaders, who were trained as Peer Support leaders by Mr Collins and Mrs Murray in week 2, were fantastic in their first session of leading their groups last week. Two Year 6 leaders facilitate a small group of 8-10 students from Kindergarten to Year 5. Each teacher supervises 2-3 groups in their classroom. We are working on a module called Promoting Harmony helping us define individual and community values, build relationships and improve decision making skills. The first session gave the students the opportunity to get to know everyone in their group and think about values and something they value in themselves. We recommend you talk to your child about Peer Support each week, as it will help to reinforce the concepts learned in each session.

Staff Professional Learning Day and Pupil Free Day

A reminder that all St Mary's staff will be joining other Western Region schools in Cootamundra next Friday 18th May for a development day focusing on teaching mathematics. Leonie Anstey has led the St Mary's staff in mathematics professional learning previously and we have all gained tremendous understanding of current teaching methods for maths. We are certainly looking forward to continuing this development and implementing these in our classes.

As a result of the day, this is a Pupil Free Day for all students at St Mary's.
