The Reading Challenge
The Reading Challenge Sausage Sizzle BBQ will be held next Tuesday 2/7/24 for those students who successfully completed the 18 nights of reading.
Pupil Free Days
Staff will be participating in two pupil free days over the next month. The first will occur on Friday 5th July (last day of term two) where staff will be attending a staff spirituality day. The second is on Monday 22nd July (first day of term three) where staff will be undergoing further training through the Catholic Education ‘Catalyst’ program.
Grandparents Day
Grandparents Day has been shifted from week one of next term to Friday 2nd August (Week 2) next term. Week one was very busy with the NAIDOC Mass, Confirmation Retreat and preparations for the Confirmation mass. Given Monday is a pupil free day, reducing the school week to four days, it was decided to move the event.
Grandparents Day will commence with a liturgy in the hall at 1pm, followed by afternoon tea. When children return to class at 2pm following recess, grandparents will be invited to visit their grandchild/grandchildrens rooms.
We will be sending home a request at the start of next term seeking assistance from parents in providing afternoon tea. Given the entries in our own Master Chef competition, the brownies, fudge and cupcakes will certainly be something you could bake again.
St Mary’s Public Speaking:
On Tuesday St Mary’s hosted our inter-school public speaking against
St Joseph’s Grenfell. St Mary’s was represented by:
- Year 3: Henry Burgess & Pippa McKnight
- Year 4: Alex Presser & Zoe Armstrong
- Year 5: River Hambilton & Amity Sullivan
- Year 6: Jayda Holt & Diyon Peris
These students had previously qualified from their own class and year speak-offs earlier in the term. I commend all of these students for the preparation and effort they put into their speeches. All of the speeches were of a high calibre thanks to their work in class and the support of their teachers.
Congratulations to the following students who will progress to the next round which is the Western Region Public Speaking.
- Year 3: Pippa McKnight
- Year 4: Alex Presser
- Year 5: Amity Sullivan
- Year 6: Jayda Holt
St Mary’s is hosting this competition at the school on Friday 9th August. More details regarding this event will be forwarded closer to the date.

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN CLASSROOMS
From problem solving in Mathematics to painting like Salvadore Dali in Visual Arts, the fun in 3/4A never stops! This Term has had a focus on working together as a team and overcoming challenges with determination and resilience. Everyday is a new opportunity for the students in 3/4A to learn, challenge and discover. We can’t wait to see what next Term has in store for us!
2M have been investigating data. They have been looking at various topics and choosing suitable questions to create data displays. Students investigated where their classmates live, how they get home and favourite foods. The photos show students exploring how many colours they had collected. Students recorded their answers using the information as tally marks, tables and picture graphs.
Writing daily is also a fun activity for 2M students. They have been busy learning how to write a paragraph, beginning with a topic sentence and supporting details.
We know many families are struggling with the ‘cost of living crisis’ being played out across Australia. If you find yourself caught up in a difficult financial situation I ask you to reach out to us for assistance. There is no embarrassment in this and it may stop the amount owing growing to even higher levels. All discussions and information is confidential. Please contact Donna or Peter if you wish to have a discussion regarding school fees.

SPONSORSHIP ADVERTISING PROGRAM
We offer businesses the opportunity to advertise their business on a sign attached to the fence at the front of the school facing Elizabeth Street.
This street has a high volume of traffic and is an ideal location to place these advertisements. We would like to thank our sponsors that have supported our school by taking this opportunity.
Should you wish to support the school, please contact the office 6382 5844.
