PRINCIPAL'S NEWS - MR PETER HUGHES
Today we had a whole school mass to celebrate the feast of Mary Help of Christians, who is the patroness of Australia. It was great to have the whole school celebrating in the Church with parishioners and parents. A highlight was the choir under the leadership of Mrs Presser singing Hail Mary, Gentle Woman. Thank you to Mrs Murray for her organisation of the mass and to Fr Jiss for leading us in prayer.
Pope Pius VII established the feast in honour of Our Lady Help of Christians in 1815. After being imprisoned by Napoleon Bonaparte, he established the feast in thanksgiving for his release. Australia, a new colony at that time, had no Catholic priests and therefore no Mass available. The faithful recited and relied on the Rosary to sustain the Catholic community. In 1844, Australia became the first country in the world to have Mary Help of Christians as Patroness.

Thank you to all parents who attended the parent teacher interviews that took place this week. If you were unable to meet with your child’s teacher this week and still wish to do so, I suggest you reach out to the teacher and arrange a suitable time. The email address of teachers are;

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Mortimer Shield on Tuesday. We had teams playing League Tag and tackle and from what I saw and what was reported to me, the children displayed good sportsmanship, listened to the staff and parents who assisted and had a great day. Thank you to Mrs Dal Molin and Mr Ziebowski and the many parents that assisted and supported the teams on the day.
We have received wonderful feedback regarding our Year Six leaders who lead prospective parents on a tour of the school during our open days. They were wonderful ambassadors and I am sure many of the visitors hope that enrolling their child at St Mary’s will see their children become as polite, confident and friendly.
