For the last three years teachers have been sharing student work samples with parents. These work samples have been graded using the same grading scale used in our school reports. In saying this, teachers base grades on a number of work samples collected throughout the semester and the sample shared with parents is one of these.
The work samples going home this semester reflect work being done in mathematics and are different to earlier ones sent home in that we are asking parents to make a comment for their child and for the teacher to see. Prior to parents seeing the work sample it would have been moderated by the teachers against other work samples in the same grade and other samples in that stage. Students and their peers will also have graded the work sample based on criteria they have agreed to.
A lot of work has gone into providing this one piece of evidence for families so we would like, and I am sure your child would like you to look at the work sample and provide feedback. We trialed this in Year 5 last year and we had a small number of parents provide feedback which was disappointing.
The work samples are due to go home to families on Friday 20th June..
In semester two we will be sending home work samples linked to English.
Maths Mornings
On Tuesday morning we held the last of four maths mornings. I thank the families who took the opportunity to learn about the maths happening in classrooms throughout the school and how we teach the major concepts.
Below are links to guides for parents developed by the NSW Educational Standards Authority, on how to support your child in Mathematics. There are three articles. One for Kindergarten, the second for Years One and Two and the final one is for students from Year Three to Year Six.

WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING IN OUR CLASSROOMS
The students of Stage 1 have been enjoying Term 2 with a lot of wonderful learning taking place. In InitaLit we have been working really hard to develop our reading, writing and speaking skills. In Mathematics we have been learning about polygons (a 2D shape which has straight sides). We have been exploring the edges and vertices of polygons and been seeing what designs we can make by joining them together. In Religion we have been learning about creation and all the ways we can be stewards of creation. In Sport we have been practicing our athletics skills and working on throwing techniques. In Science we are exploring the different forms energy comes in and in History we have been exploring the stories of mythology as we discover ancient history. Our Art has been celebrating the great learning that has been taking place across all subjects. As we commence the second half of the term, we look forward to the many great learning opportunities that await us.

CANTEEN NEWS - Mrs Jennifer Harden
TACO TUESDAY: Tuesday June 10, 2025
We are starting our Hot Lunch Tuesdays when we return to school next week.
This special meal will be the only lunch available on Tuesdays. Recess orders will remain open.
I ask that all tacos are ordered through Flexischools by 8:30 Tuesday morning.
Tacos will be $3.00 each with vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free dietary requirements catered for.
We will be serving lunch in the hall cafeteria style and a range of taco toppings will be available for the children to choose from. I am excited to see them dine together at tables, fingers crossed no food fights.
I am still looking for volunteers for Tuesday, 2 or 3 would be ideal.
